A university library has not always been the place I would see myself working in. However, with my traineeship, I have found all the library things that I love here too. In my time here I have been inspired by library work in a different way.
In SEAMK Library, I have gained a versatile foundation of skills in the library work field. In addition, I have been able to use my own skills and creativity. For example, I have made a lot of videos and other social media posts.
I have made many different exhibitions of the collection and with that I have gotten to know the library’s collections pretty well. While doing this research, I have found a lot of new books to read on my endless reading list.
There are so many more tasks in the library than I could have guessed at first. Whether it be the acquisition of printed or e-materials, magazines, accessibility, publishing articles, magazines, website maintenance and so, so much more… Sometimes I felt almost dizzy from how much happens here.
I have also been part of creating some events for the library. I had so much fun creating checkpoints for an event called Kirjastokipitys. SEAMK’s Bring your child to work -day was also a nice change of pace during the fall.
It has been nice to get to know the entire library staff and to be involved with the whole work community at SEAMK.
My internship at SEAMK Library has given me a lot and sparked a new kind of enthusiasm for the library field. I think I’ve got a good package of skills for the future. I’ve tried and practiced but fortunately there is an open atmosphere where you can make mistakes and ask for help if needed. I have learned a lot in my 5 months here.
I don’t know where life will take me next, but I do know that my internship at SEAMK Library has been the beginning of my own library career path.
